when did Australian Prime Minister John Howard first announce he believed in Climate Change?

After years as a skeptic, John Howard changed his mind and started pouring money into batteleing climate change. When did he first admit climate change was real?

It’s hard to put specific dates on things like these. Being a politician it was a slow and subtle shift of policy rather than standing up and making a bold announcement.

There were signs that Howard was changing his opinion as far back as early last year, by the middle of last year it was apparent that he would have to make some sort of move soon.

One of the most obvious indications on his change of policy came along with the announcement that Australia was going ahead with plans to build the world’s largest solar energy plant in order to curb greenhouse gas emissions, this would have been about last October.

When George W Bush made his State of the Union Address in January he had been advised to model his U-turn on global warming on the way John Howard had.

I think it would be safe to say that in early 2006 Howard was hinting at changing his stance, by mid 2006 it was clear he was changing and by late 2006 he had fully switched.

About the time he realized that the public was being fooled, and the government would make a killing from it.

    That’s when he became convinced.
