News and comments on global climate change, global warming and greenhouse effect
My veiw is we are all caught in a political lie. there is no such thing as man made global warming and we have nothing to contribute to it.
I strongly believe that we are the cause of global warming. Greenhouse gases are being emitted from factories, cars, and other products made by men itself. Therefore, if we used more sources of energy that were environmentally friendly, then there wouldn’t be so much trouble in our atmosphere. With the current trend, temperature is projected to rise about 13 degrees over the next 500 years.
i think its a cycle, not man-made. temperature rises and falls have occured throughout the history of the world so it could be just a cycle. some say it is occuring too fast to be a cyclee, but idk?
My shrink is hot.
I think its real, ice shelves melting, flooding in England, weather patterns round the world changing.
What would be the benefits of it being a political lie?
I lean towards that its a political thing as well. My pastor just did a sermon on this and he does TONS of research–he does not just blow smoke up your skirt. one of the points he brought up was that yes the earth has warmed in the past 50 yrs–about a 1/2 of a degree. the other point he made is that if you have a glass with liquid in it & you add ice cubes, when the ice cubes melt do you have more in your cup or less. duh, less. so if a bunch of the ice burgs melt will we have massive flooding–no.
are we as humans contributing to this so-called "global warming"? maybe a little, but we are doing what we need to survive or better our lifestyle. Are we not the beings that are suppose to thrive & prosper? that is what God created us for. I don’t think we should purposely make the environement worse, please do not get me wrong, but we need to do what we need to do. most of us need to drive to work, etc. we do not live in the 1800′s anymore.
ray w–you like to talk a lot, don’t you??? water does not expand as it melts–you do know that, right? have you ever noticed that we have yet to break most of the heat records from almost 100 yrs. ago? Our beautiful earth goes thru cycles. it always has, always will until God makes it perfect again as it was in Eden.
whatever. opinions. yelling. live a comfortable life, but don’t be stupid.
I shouldn’t have tried to quote my pastor, i probably misquoted him. please do not talk down about him–he could out-intellegent you ray w, in probably any conversation.
Is that YOUR view, or have you been listening to AM talk radio? (Or people who listen to talk radio.) THEY certainly have a political agenda.
Check out the book Hothouse, written by scientists. Then compare it with the tone of derision and ridicule the subject is treated with on talk radio.
Cape Cod was so named because hundred-pounders were jumping into boats. No longer. Monterey used to stink with whale breath. The Plains states used to be tall prairie blackened for miles with herds of millions of buffalo. Before that, camels, big cats, and wooly mammoth roamed the Americas. Man changed all that before we even had access to fossil fuels. Still think we can’t affect the Earth?
If you drive only one car, are you willing to inhale all its exhaust to filter it out? And if nobody does, where does it all go? Into the air you breathe anyway. And that’s only a part of it – what about the exhaust from your local coal-fired or oil-fired power plants? The ships and trains and trucks that bring you food and toys? Or the burning of forests?
Have you ever been in a greenhouse? It’s a lot hotter there than outside, and they don’t have heaters. The same effect works in the atmosphere.
Have you heard of houses in Alaska and Siberia sinking into what used to be permafrost? Islands threatened by rising seas? The shrinking ice cover over the North Pole? The ever-accelerating rate of retreat of glaciers? The change in migratory patterns and the arrival date of blooms? Coral reefs dying from warm water? The climate IS changing. And we’re the biggest, meanest, most numerous and aggressive actors on the planet.
If we’re not the sole cause, we at least contribute. And we should care, because human life will be unsustainable as we know it if this is allowed to continue:
When bees die off, fruit crops will not be pollinated. When the wind patterns change, drought and flood will ruin crops, AND SOIL. Some areas may get more beneficial rain than before – but they don’t have the soil or infrastructure to support massive agriculture. When sea levels rise, ports will cease to function, and the cities attached to them. Without functioning ports, even if we have fuel, we won’t get goods. And a billion people live within the area projected to flood. Do you think a billion refugees without food or water might cause wars? Plagues? Famine?
What about ocean currents changing? If the Gulf Stream fails, northern Europe will be buried under ice. (It’s already weakened.) And as water in the tropics warms, super-cyclones and super-hurricanes will pummel our shores and cause devastating flooding far inland.
And if it’s politics, where’s the gain? Who profits from a global warming warning? OTOH, who profits from ridiculing it? That’s obvious: Oil companies, coal companies, car companies. They have lots of money for lobbyists and opinionated broadcasters, and they like things the way they are, and most are old men who will be dead by the time it’s here.
If I told you that a gun was loaded, would you put it to your head and pull the trigger to prove me wrong?

And to the woman who wrote:

Your pastor doesn’t know squat about research. It’s not icebergs melting, but ice sheets on top of land, that the scientists are concerned about. I suggest a different experiment for you and your pastor to try:
Put a measuring cup with one cup of water under the drain of your dish-drainer. Now put ice cubes on the dish-drainer. When the ice cubes melt and drip into the measuring cup, do you have more water or less? More, duh.
DUH! And he gets to spew his idiocy in front of hundreds of people with the authority of a man speakind for God? And you believe him? Try the experiment. And pray.
First thing, global warming is real. It happens between each Ice Age. The research shows that the previous warming was warmer than this one, of course this one is not over.
Has human activity caused global warming? I don’t think so. Despite what the politicians, some of them, there is NOT a consensus on the effect humans have had on global warming. It is too bad politics got so involved. Because they and the media have really messed things up. Basically they seem to be happy spreading confusion.
You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, however I must say that nearly all of the worlds reputable climate scientists happen to disagree. Are you a climate scientist?
Global warming is real. Man is not causing it. It’s happening so slowly that we will acclimate ourselves to the gradual changes.
The political feature of this BS that we are constantly handed is, control. The gloom and doom powers that be want to tighten their control on industry and thus tighten their control over the populace. That would be us.
Why, of course you must be on the payroll of Big Oil to have such an opinion!!!!!
Of course, being on the payroll of a socialist organization does not disqualify a scientist like being paid by someone who might want real scientific answers.
You know that one hot summer proves Global Warming, but one cold season does not prove anything.
When glaciers melt, it is due to global warming, but when they grow it is a local phenomenon.
When they create a "hockey stick" graph using tree ring data from one isolated region of the California mountains, it is legitimate, even if it has no actual temperature data in it at all, but if you say that 3/4 of the globe shows no evidence of global warming you are just using regional weather. Don’t you know that there is a difference between weather and climate?
Hey, I think I still have some Kool-Aid left. Anybody want some?
