What are the best resources for information on global warming?

It seems like at this point in time their seems to be no end to the debate about global warming. Every reliable source out there seems to have some kind of bias against the facts and only shows the side that proves their own personal argument. Where could I find the facts on global warming?

unfortunately, there are many cites that support both sides of the argument.
however, maybe you’ll notice that there’s a difference in quality of cites.
most of those that I post are by nationally, and internationally recognized science organizations.
that’s way different than postings like junkscience.com , isthereglobalwarming.com , whatsupwiththat.com , co2science.com , and other such, which are, essentially either blogs or cites created with support from the energy industry.
in fact, you even get postings from youtube.

Here’s what I think are reputable sources, along with comments about them:

Historically, global warming, and cooling occur naturally.
Ice ages occur in about 100,000 year cycles.
Changes in the eccentricity of the earth’s orbit are the driving factor.
When the orbit is very eccentric, an ice age occurs.
when the orbit is more circular, we have an inter-glacial.
that’s what’s happening now, and it will be a few thousand years before we can expect natural causes to drive the climate toward a new ice age.

Here’s the bigger version of the graph.
Note how iceage cycles line up with eccentricity cycles.

gee, sure are a lot of folks that think it’s not true.
on the other hand, all the honest science organizations think it’s both real, and a serious problem.

    i wonder who to believe?
how ’bout climatologists, meteorologists, and all the major science organizations?

    http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/global_warming/is_global_warming_hype.html

<<A poll … of 3,146 Earth scientists showed 96.2% of climatologists who are active in climate research believe that mean global temperatures have risen compared to pre-1800s levels, and 97.4% believe that human activity is a significant factor in changing mean global temperatures. >>

97% of climatologists think that there’s a problem, and we’re causing it.

    http://www.ametsoc.org/policy/2009geoengineeringclimate_amsstatement.html

<<Human responsibility for most of the well-documented increase in global average temperatures over the last half century is well established. Further greenhouse gas emissions, particularly of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels, will almost certainly contribute to additional widespread climate changes that can be expected to cause major negative consequences for most nations …. impacts are expected to include further global warming, continued sea level rise, greater rainfall intensity, more serious and pervasive droughts, enhanced heat stress episodes, ocean acidification, and the disruption of many biological systems. These impacts will likely lead to the inundation of coastal areas, severe weather, and the loss of ecosystem services, among other major negative consequences.>>

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change#Statements_by_dissenting_organizations

<<With the release of the revised statement by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in 2007, no remaining scientific body of national or international standing is known to reject the basic findings of human influence on recent climate change.>>

ie, no reputable scientific organization claims that AGW is not real.
in addition, it is worthy of note that the last group to admit the problem was the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
that should give you a telling clue.

i posted this above. it’s an hour long. but really good.

Nasa run one of the best sites it covers all the detail in a clear easy to understand way and links to a number of outside groups as data sources.

Newscientist also have a guide to the subject that attempts to dispel some of the false information that is being spread

I believe the Earth is cooling at this point. There is and always will be climate change. The debate is whether or not it is caused by Human activity.
(Edit) When I want information I like to look at the facts not opinions. I like to make my own opinions.. This is an information site with many links including NASA. I do not trust all government sites they can be by is. I also prefer updated current information.

    Ignore crackpot web-sites like http://www.isthereglobalwarming.com

Instead, rely on sources with unimpeachable credibility, like the National Academy of Sciences.

For a good introduction to global-warming, spend some time reading this document put out by the National Academy of Sciences: http://dels.nas.edu/dels/rpt_briefs/climate_change_2008_final.pdf

Edited to add: If you spend some time here, you’ll notice that the AGW "supporters" almost always cite highly-credible sources like the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the National Academy of Sciences, the American Geophysical Union, MIT, CalTech, UCLA, NASA, NOAA, etc., while the AGW deniers almost always cite crank web-sites run by nobodies that you have never heard of.

Edited to add: Ignore James E. He’ll steer you wrong in every manner possible (he’s even screwed up on simple things like what dissolving CO2 in water does to pH.).

Also, stay away from wattsupwiththat.com — the individual who runs it is an incompetent hack who doesn’t even have a bachelor’s degree in science.

Once again, stick with the National Academy of Sciences and you won’t go wrong.
