Global Warming & Climate Change Rotating Header Image

Are Climate Change deniers the modern-day equivalent of Tobacco companies?

Tobacco companies fought controls on tobacco for decades by claiming that "there’s no proof" that nicotine is harmful (even though their internal data said otherwise), and used a strategy of "doubt is our best friend."

Are climate change deniers guilty of using the same cynical strategy?

Climate change is contantly happening, just like on Mars, Jupiter, etc.. It has been so since the beginning of time.

Over 10,000 years ago, in less than 20 years North America went from an glacier & ice covered continent to a warm climate. There were no cars back then and the population of the earth was far less than 50 million.

The repeated runoff from melting ice ages carved the grand canyon and underwater features in the gulf of Mexico.

    NASA: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Study/Paleoclimatology_Evidence/Images/gisp2_temperature.gif
NASA: "Rapid changes between ice ages and warm periods (called interglacials) are recorded in the Greenland ice sheet. Occurring over ONE OR TWO DECADES [10 or 20 years] , the warming of the Earth at the end of the last ice age happened much faster than the rate of change of the Earth’s orbit. ".

Also, CO2 was increasing while temperatures went down. And 1998 was not the hottest year on record. It was hotter in the 1930′s.

  2. Not Rep or Dem!! says:

no, climate change is a silly phrase. The climate has changed dramatically throughout time. Ice ages and heat waves. It’s all climate it always changes. Thinking anything else is just silly. Read your history, how did the dinosaurs die anyways? Climate change…..

  3. Romare says:

Good comparison. The flat earthers also come to mind.

  4. leahfu says:

In the 70s everyone was told that the world was going thru Global Cooling(Read a Creed for the Third Millenium). In the 90s it was Global Warming. Now its climate change

You know if it wasn’t so controversial then more people would believe it. But things like NOAA putting their thermometers in places that record higher temps(like on rooftops or in sheds next to lightbulbs) just make us not believe it more.

I dont think we shouldnt do things to protect our enviroment. I think its a good idea. But to do it on the basis that our planet is about to die is ridiculous.

  5. Not You says:

Dont be such a kiss a$s.

Anyone with any sense would follow the money & see right through obamas scheme to raise hundreds of billions of dollars a year.

Are you so blinded by obamas rock star image that you cant see sending all that money to Washington wont change the weather?

For you that dont know any better big oil loves Cap & Trade, it gives them more ways to make money off of us dumb Americans.

  6. tm says:

Only if the the opposite would be chicken Little’s.

  7. Jason S says:

They’re the modern day equivalent of the Flat Earth Society.

Actually, big oil and the coal companies have many of the same spin doctors as the tobacco companies used. And they use the same techniques, funding scientists to ensure they’re assessment is in line with their agenda.

It’s not hard to do. When a research facility lives off donations from Exxon Mobile, how readily will they support climate change?

  8. FKUNDAS says:

Except Tobacco companies have been proven wrong…

Climate Change as a result of human interventions, has not.

Climate Change is a naturally occurring phenomena. To lie about humans being to blame, to provoke fear in little children about the earth dying "and so will you," to promote more green-friendly expensive junk for people to buy – is ridiculous.

No self-respecting scientist is going to sign his name on the paper that says, Climate Change is caused by humans.

  9. that guy says:

    haha, …climate change…
guess that’s the politically correct word for "seasons"

  10. hdean45 says:

I’ll give some thought to climate change when the people who are pushing the idea start living the way they tell us we should live. People like Al Gore must get a laugh out of the people who buy into the whole idea.

  11. Not an Obamoron says:

as a proud "denier" you conspiracy theorists are missing the benefits of the so called global warming.
    1) longer growing seasons – more food for the hungry
    2) shorter cold seasons – less heating – saving energy and money
    3) longer spring/fall so more quality time for families.

so the benefits out way the made up sky is falling. The debate is now over and the deniers have settled it. Please resist bringing it up again.
